well they noticed that the stuff fell off this time, and hopefully this time they will do something about it before re-entry, so maybe those 7 wont die. but i dont like gwb either. and i dont like kerry really, so...

what the hell kind of logic is that? yes debris was seen falling, they are trying to figure out whats wrong, if its life threatening they will do what they can to save those people. even if theres a accident causing death or injury of those people i highly doubt funding will be cut to nasa.

maybe what we need is armageddon to burn the idoits face of the earth, ash has no political allegiance...

I bet if you inspect all the videos of shuttle launches to great detail, a bunch of them have had shit fall off them, boo hoo.. Most of them did fine. How about we strap you to a rocket and see if your arm or leg falls off, just for fun...

Bush is the man.. Although I'm like the only Canadian who likes him. Canadians seem to hate him more than americans do.. I'm not sure why.

heres a lil fyi about the debris

its is the same thing that caused the crash before in 03, foam insulation from the main fuel tank (the big ass brown one) broke off during launch, in 97 freon was declared a hazardous material and banned from use in the us. freon was a major component in the process to make the foam that incases the tank, after it was banned an alternative chemical was needed to harden the foam which was found to be less effective than the older foam, and since 97 the shuttle launches have all had some kind of debris fly off the tank unortuanately it caused the deaths of 7 people two years ago, more than a billion dollars was spent trying to reinforce the foam so this would not happen again bu as you can see it did not help.

anyway bush has put up a large goal for nasa, he wants to send us back to the moon and to mars, to do this we need to update our space equipment, the shuttle is a 30 something year old technology but it is a proven design but it needs help to make it safer and cheaper to produce and run, during the private funded space race the craft that made it first into space did not have a ceramic tile shield but rather a composite material that was casted in one piece rather than the thousands of tiles that the shuttle uses, the foam around the tank needs to be completely rethought or freon needs to be brough back as for getting to mars we would prolly need to use nuclear rocket engines, this is a grey area since they would dump radioactive material in space not many people are keen to this idea eventhough it doesnt have any chance of harming any living creatures (since conventional rockets would be used to get the vehical past the moons orit before nuclear rockets to be fired)

Sorry, it just would have been easier to follow what you were trying to say if my brain was allowed to rest and digest your words in between thoughts. But if I read you correctly, then I add that they don't need to rethink the shuttles. They need to scrap them entirely and redesign the vehicles we use to go into space. The shuttles were built during a time when the best computer technology available on the market was the Apple II. Even assuming that their technology was slightly ahead, it's still 15-20 years behind at best. They don't exactly gut and redesign the interiors to accomodate new technology every few years. I'll bet half the crap in there doesn't even run on microchips.

There have been dozens of viable alternative designs to the shuttles proposed over the years; many of which are more reliable and cheaper. The reason they have not been implemented is politics.
