ok, i am going to have to say, out of all of the other peoples list, yours is dangerously close to what i actually listen most often. This is nuts, i am willing to bet that you probably also use cannabis on a regular basis as i do. My favorite bands in the world are Boards of canada, mogwai, modest mouse, sigur ros, isis and between the buried and me. If you havent listened to btbams new album, do it! They are absolutely amazing. Its beyond my comprehension of how they write the music that they do. They could compose symphonies. The music they play is the musical equivalent of an orgasm. It will blow your mind, especially if you are drugged.

I don't smoke weed, haven't for a year or so.. I really don't like being high. I don't even really like drinking anymore.

Try:
God is an astronaut
Explosions in the sky
Battles
Four Tet
The Album Leaf
Band of Horses
Ratatat

Bold = Awesome bands.

also, not of fan of between the buried and me.

How old are you now? I think back in the day of LLD new, you were about my age now. Im not sure though.

What?

I was around when 76 legit was around.

I'm 19.

Oh no...it can't be...

I don't understand this...

You have to click the link in my text.

I realize that.... How is it relevant to me at all? I'm not reading that wholeeeee thread.

QUOTE PYRAMID!!!!

^That's why. If you took the time to look through a few pages you'd see the quote pyramid grew basically to the size of a full page.

OH. I UNDERSTAND NOW.

Confused

What if there's a rap, country, or current radio pop song out there that you might actually like but aren't giving a chance?

I'm not saying that all country, rap, and current radio pop music is shining and amazing or anything. There's just a lot of people that completely don't give any of it a chance when there's actually good music in all of those genre's. Biases are silly.

There's really no difference between 10th grade Kristina Teenybopper refusing to listen to music because it's not on the radio, and some dude refusing to listen to music because it is on the radio.

as a musician i have to disagree.
I don't listen to things on the radio, not because i dislike them, but because the music industry is highly corrupted and they choose who/what gets popular and for what reasons. People demands do not decide, it is all precisely calculated for one single thing; profit. And to say otherwise is false. The music industry execs make money by promoting certain sound and not others. The "radio friendly" music take about 1/10th the talent and about 1/10000th the effort of the music which many struggling bands/acts produce. It is heartless, soulless, and almost NEVER written by the acts who "perform" the music. Where as non-radio music is almost always written by the band/artist.

As for teeny boppers, they don't listen to nonradio music because their friends don't all listen to it. It's not a matter of taste, its a matter of popularity and fitting in.

I'm sorry but i think you are an absolute moron.

If I was saying that everyone who doesn't listen to Top 40 all day is stupid and close-minded, then I'd agree with you completely. But I'm not saying that at all.

I'm saying that there are country artists, rap artists, and rock artists who make it onto the radio that actually legitimately make good music that they put a lot of effort into and manage to make a name for themselves. I've seen way too many pretentious music freaks have some sort of favorite band that one day actually manages to make it onto the radio and they all cry "OH MAN I DON'T LIKE THAT BAND ANYMORE THEY SOLD OUT" just because they can no longer pretend to be unique butterflies who listen to some band that only 7 people have ever heard of and they are unique and cool.

I also detest most radio music and the popular music industry, but I also detest that elitist attitude that nothing that is ever on the radio could POSSIBLY be good because oh gosh it's on the radio.

I agree completely! That's the point I was making, although I obviously didn't do a very good job of doing it. I was pointing out that with these types of people exists the polar opposite who get all pretentious and try to seem like they have a more pronounced sense of individuality just because they only listen to music that no one else has ever heard of. Don't tell me you've never met one.
