The whole movie surprised me completely I've heard this movie bashed a couple of times and praised at the same time. Wondering everyone's opinion on the whole flick. I can name a couple of things that can turn away a couple of people.

1) "It's not historically accurate"
2) "The movie is about 2 1/2 hours of pure violence"
3) "Story is very romanticized and blah blah blah"

But all in all it was a great flick. My favorite scene in the entire flick was where the guy was all like "This is MADNESS" then for like 4 seconds they delayed probably the best line in the entire movie "THIS IS SPARTA!!!!"

I really liked it, but I think people blew the movie way out of proportion.

I loved the movie.

I was saying "Spartans, Prepare for glory!" for like a week after I watched it, it was kinda annoying really.

My girlfriend really liked it too, she liked the part where the girl stabs the traitor haha.

frank miller created a graphic novel about the battle at thermopylae

the movie is based on the fiction he wrote, about what we know to have happened.

didnt see it, heard it was amazing. i liked sin city and consider myself a miller fan

said the story was a bit weak, but it looked really good and incredible action.. same could be sad about cin city though friends of mine said SC was better

i wanted to see that but then i got sidetracked by some friends, and they convinced me to go see blades of glory... which wasnt bad. What i realy wanted to see was TMNT Laughing i got mixed reviews from friends on that one 2.

There should def be a stickied movie discussion thread. It would help us save a little green by hearing what movies were actualy worth seeing, and which movies were...not.

That movie freakin ROCKS. I would have to disagree with your favorite part though...it is obviously after the first battle when Zerkzes (however you spell his name) is on his way out to Meet Leonidus, and Leonidus is eating the apple and says, "Why can't we be civil about this?" while his 2nd in command agrees and kills the wounded Persian on the ground. I laughed so hard I was crying.

btw....

Oh yes, it's a great flick for anyone who wants to indulge in a bit of exuberant violence and a few humorous moments.

"This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this."

But Grindhouse. Now THAT was an in-fucking-credible movie, goddammit

I love Quentin, but that movie just looked really bad....dunno what exactly made it look that way but I dunno, I suppose I'll rent it when it comes out. $8+ for a movie that I get to see once really is rarely worth it to me Sad

1) "It's not historically accurate"

It's not. As Jerk said: it's a movie based on a graphic novel that loosely retells the historical story. But once you get that through your head (took me about a quarter of the movie) you realize that the cinematography is f'ing mind blowing. Easily the best fight scenes I have ever seen. I really liked the speed-change schtick they used to dramaticize the battles.

2) "The movie is about 2 1/2 hours of pure violence"

There's also a sorta awkward and wholly unnecessary love scene in the beginning. Also: anyone who has read about the actual Spartans know that "pure violence" just about sums up a Spartan's life.

3) "Story is very romanticized and blah blah blah"

This is true. My favorite line was when the King was talking about how great Spartans are, and he says something like "we're not like those boy-loving Athenians". Very funny, since Spartans were notorious for the man-boy love thing; hell, it was built right into their military training.

Plus, King Leonidas has a *heavy* Scottish accent. Painfully obvious. Every time he talked, I kept thinking his voice had been dubbed over by Sean Connery.

The best part was when he met the other army and they compared soldiers. "looks like I brought more soldiers than you." Very Happy.

Also, for the people that moan that he didnt kill Xerxes at the end. It doesnt matter, he showed him that he was mortal!
