My friend thinks that if he sockets his wep with x-x dmg jewels that it will be like grief, but I think that it adds directly to weapon dmg like min/max except it adds both.

Can I get a little clarification so a friend doesn't waste his jewel?

x-x jewels are just min and max damage. its nothing like grief.

the only damage that applies to smiters is enhanced damage (off weapon and from stats) and damage + xx , since it adds to the damage of your shield (from what ive been told), but however it works grief, redeemer, and asterons are the only 3 i can think off off the top of my head that it works on

Yup. Have your friend look carefully at Grief - I think the mod is +Damage. Can't remember offhand, but it is slightly different from "adds xx-yy damage."
