MP3 Player suggestions

I am looking for an mp3 player and I was wondering if people have any suggestions based on ones they've had experience with. Here's my criteria: 1) No Ipods please. I'm kinda sick of the whole look. 2) Flash drive preferably since it would be easy to carry around, run with, and xfer music quickly. 3) No less than a 1G but nothing much bigger really. I can't see myself needing to carry more than 150-200 songs. 4) Price range $100-$150. (I know I'm cheap!) 5) I'd like to be able to create folders and playlists on the player 
Any suggestions? |

To be very honest, ive messed around with quite a lot of mp3 players and the iPod beats them all by quite a way. If they accepted .wma and itunes didnt try and convert your music library to .aac it would be perfect. A friend of mine for some reason dislikes iPods, but has had at least 4 different players and sent them all back at some time because they either broke or were just too crappy [see: sony walkman...]. However i dont know of anyone who has had a problem with a 'pod. If you MUST have something other than an ipod though, go for the creative zen |

That is EXACTLY the one I have. I got it this past christmas and it's great. I have an (unfounded?) dislike for iPod's as well so this worked out great. _________________ To my 101 friends, I love ya'll. To my 101 enemies, if only you were worth my time.  |

I know what you mean, i used to think that.... Then my brother got an ipod nano and seriously, the pictures of it dont do it justice. It is the first ever piece of electrical equipment you could actually call sexy. When you get past the whole apple thing, its great to use and the software isnt bad. Providing you didnt spend YEARS ripping your music collection to your pc in .wma format then discover you need to convert or re-rip ~3000 songs to .mp3 and the [free] program to do it is surprisingly hard to find. |

My 4gb iPod Nano is quite sexy. In fact, I get comments on it all the time out here in Kuwait, along with offers to buy it on occasion. I would suggest to Meli that she reconsider the iPod. But assuming that we're dealing with "irrational hate backlash" from the market supersaturation iPods have, then I would also agree with others about the Creative Zen. I have a friend who has one, and it's an excellent player, looks good, and is very versatile. The Zen Micro is only 150 bucks for the 5gb model. One word of caution. Please, for the love of God don't use Dell Jukebox with your Zen (I believe they sometimes package the two together). Jesus cries whenever someone installs Dell Jukebox. That program will take all your music, convert it to a proprietary Dell format, and lock it to prevent other programs from easily accessing it. Very evil. |

ipods are a rip off. if i told you, that you could get a better mp3 player for less money, that holds more music, would you get it? f' apple. i'd go zen all the way. look through Creative Zen and find a nice one in your price range. dont' support apple. _________________  |

well i'm not COMPLETELY anti-ipod. I would love the nano since it's a flash drive (right?) so it's what I'm looking for, but I just can't afford something like that right now! And I do strongly believe that there MUST be some other player out there that is almost as good but cheaper because it doesn't have the apple name. I also do like the FM radio features and voice recording that most other players have. I will check out that Creative Zen one. It looks like a decent price for the 4Gb! And it's a flash drive right? I can't really tell =/ But I definitely love the look! |

Well Creative Zen Micro is very versatile mp3 player. It has 5gb and you can use up to 4gb of it for a flash drive as long as there is not over 1gb of songs on it. Of coarse it gives you the option to use either 128mb, 512mb, 1gb, 2gb, 2.5gb, 3gb, 4gb for flashdrive space. I know Dao said it was $150 but I picked mine up for $65 and you can get them for that much and less on the internet. The only downside is they need to be charged everyday basicly.. if you listen to it most of the day the battery sucks.. but you can buy more than one battery :] I got 2 I use all the time, and 1 extra for long trips. Also another mp3 player i personally like is the Roxio. They make good mp3 players, with AWESOME battery life.. let me tell you I would go 3-4 days and not have to charge that little thing, and it runs off an internal power supply. But thats just my insight for now. If you want "The" best mp3 player out right now, you'll have to pick up an ipod mp4 or mp3 with video and about 150gb of memeory.  Expensive!

Thats a crappy deal lol.. the Zen has all of that except the FM recorder.. and thats not really neccessary.. just rip FM from the comp :] then download to mp3. Not to mention guys and girls.. because no one eles including me has mentioned it yet... the Zen micro has the coolest kick ass blue underglow lighting stuff :] and it makes a neat little clicky noise on the volume control lol... :] Good game.
