Yes, I understand the effect it has. I wanted to know the reasoning behind it.

That is the reasoning... to make sure that people without fg won't have to compete with people who have fg.

As a way to appease both sides of the argument. I'll quote you from a PM I sent to Belerathon when he asked the same question:

just wondering, what was the reasoning behind not letting people post their ft/iso list in the open aswell as the regular trading forums? that just seems like a move to discourage people from using the open trading forum, with no positive repercussions :S
I could be missing something, so I figured I'd ask |
That is, unfortunately, a compromise situation. We decided to run things this way for two reasons:
1. To appease the "non FG" people. By keeping FG out of the other trade realms, people can bid/trade items without having to compete against people offering FG.
2. This is somewhat related to #1. What Knarl and I discussed was the problem of people dual-posting, and bidders getting outbid in different forums for different "currencies". Say, for example, I listed some awesome jewel in both West Ladder and Open. I'd have to list my ISO in FG (for the FG people), and non-FG (for those that don't trade in it). What if Ehhh bids my non-FG ISO, and you bid my FG ISO? Now I have to decide which I want more, and that sort of issue will just raise all sorts of cain down the road.
By keeping it separate, we maintain the option to deal in FG trades while still allowing regular non-FG trades, and don't have to get into a situation where people who don't use FG run afoul of those that do. It's not a perfect solution, but for now we think it will be the best option for keeping both camps as happy as possible. |

No, by keeping items isolated in the Open Trades forum, people without FG now cannot compete at all for items posted there.
If you allowed people to dual post, they could bid against FG users with other items.

You don't have to offer fg, you can offer other items in that forum.

So if posting in the Open trades forum is supposed to be the equivalent of posting in both forums, why not just allow posting in both forums?

Because this way, the people that don't want to compete with FG don't have to. They can have their trade forums that don't allow FG, and they can post and bid for items there knowing that FG isn't in the equation.
Granted, some people will only post in the Open forum, and those items will not be available to the non-Open shopper. But at least this way, someone who does not have forum gold can look through the realm trade pages and know that they can bid on any item in there without having to register an account on another website to do so.

The seller decides whether he wants FG in the equation by posting in either the Open Trades forum or his realm's forum. In theory, the Open Trades forum is supposed to work exactly the same as posting in both forums. If an item is posted there, anyone who trades for it will have to compete with FG, either with FG of their own or with items. Allowing the items that are posted in this section to be posted in the regular forums as well only gives them more exposure.

They could still do that if people were allowed to double post. FG would stil be banned from being used in every section other than Open Trades.
Seriously Dao, think about what I am saying. I know some other people might try to twist this argument into a bunch of nonsense and change the subject completely, but you usually don't try to do that.
