Which labtop is the best portable pc for all our needs such as word processing, net browsing, some gaming and video viewing? Just wondering because I'm in the market for one under $1200 or so. Thanks in advance!

Aside from gaming, none of the tasks you mention are particularly processor-intensive. For an under $1200 purchase, I'd recommend getting a Dell E1405 or E1505. You can upgrade to a Core 2 Duo processor and an NVIDIA or ATI graphics card for a total cost about equal to or less than $1200. It's a good deal.

what kind of games are you looking to play?

mac or pc?

building your own isnt the way to go. requires too much research to make sure everything is compatabile and even fits in the right model. laptop arent nearly as customizable as desktops. off the top of my head, the only thing you can change with ease is the ram, hard drives, and some cd drives.

oh come on...go big and get an alienware(just a little out of your pricerange...*cough* a few thousand *cough*)

but seriously...for the price-Dell will have the best (either of the 2 mentioned above)
however, dells #1 service is kind of lacking, it has ever since they moved the jobs overseas. go figure, someone who knows very little english and even less about computers cant help you O_O

Grrr, to simplify it all I just need a good labtop to be a overall performer. Part time gamer, part time workstation, part time travel pc, but most importantly to be a Wi-Fi computer, mainly to steal my neighbors signal Twisted Evil
