Throwing/Dodge ball help. |
|
We have this dodgeball tourement every week at our school. And I play atleast once every other day to practice. Only problem is, my elbow and shoulder can't seem to keep up. Latly it's been reallly hurting, on the inside of my elbow, and tricep. I'm pretty sure it's because I have a bad throwing habit. Or throwing it wrong causing stress on the muscles and tendons. I looked a bit on Google, and couldn't find any on throwing. Any baseball players out their that could give me some tips on keeping my arm up to par when game time comes?

try accupunture or a good massage (and see a doctor first.)

Haha, me and a few of my friends won a dodgeball tournament at my university last year. Your triceps/elbow shouldn't be hurting....power comes from your lats and twisting your core.

I asked one of my friends today and they said it was tennis arm. Not a clue what that is.

Needels.
Quote: | use your other arm. |
Tried it, ended up disslocating my shoulder from torquing it too much. I have really bad legaments in my shoulders.

I usually use one after game time, but this time they didn't help.

I'll try a different throwing form in the meantime, then.
Any other suggestions?

im guessing your throwing with your are out sideways instead of paralell with your body. Just try to bring your arm straight up. Its tough to break the habit. But practice makes perfect.

By the sound of it, its either tennis elbow: http://www.medinfo.co.uk/conditions/tenniselbow.html
Or golfers elbow: http://www.medinfo.co.uk/conditions/golferselbow.html
Not really any miracle cure for it, it seems.

me and a buncha my friends here at university played in a dodgeball tourny last sunday. There were like 30ish teams and we came in 2nd overall...not too shabby.
IF you havent thrown anything in a while, then your shoulder and arm will hurt. Then again if you throw too much they will hurt too :S.
Try throwing sidearm, thats what a bunch of us had to do when our arms started locking up (i dont throw things regularly lol).
and a tip, if you're using those heavy foamy balls...squish the air out of them before u throw them for maximum ownage

We use old crapped out volly balls. They're great for grip if part of the cover comes off. I have been playing D-ball all year atleast every other day. This week we've played for around 6 hours of D-ball in 3 days time.
Would a elbow brace help any? Or do I just ultimatly have to change my form?

changing your form will be more helpful overall
try not to exert power from your shoulder, but just use the inertia from moving it forwards
make sure it rolls off your fingertips too

I was waiting for a Dodgeball quote.
They just say "Read set go!"
Funny thing was last competition, we lost vs the underclassmen and won vs the upper classmen/varstiy players.

I used to like dodgeball when I was in high school. To be able to throw really hard for long periods of time with no pain afterwards I did something like this. After a little practice you can throw it exactly where you want.
Start running.
Do a 360 motion with the ball in ure hand (hold it to not drop it).
Then you throw it from about waist height.
You can pack as much power as the strongest front throwing people and just sacrificing very little aim.
It also doesn't put alot of effort in your shoulder nor elbow.
