I used to play several months ago. But I only played for about 2 months, and i felt I had gotten everything from the card game there was to take. I new all the functions of every card (except some badly worded ones from alpha and beta etc), I have gotten a nice collection of cards, I had got good stretegies and pre-made decks...then i realised, I was playing a game that was based on luck.
Like with every card game, you have a chance to draw a card/s you want, or a junk one. I eventually gave up because I was sick of not picking up the cards I wanted, and then even if you had all the skill in the world, if someone gets lucky with their draw, and you get unlucky, then you can be screwed.
So there you have it, my life story

I used to play this game YEARS ago, back when Legends was first coming out. I didn't realize people still played it. Very cool.
I really need to find out if my old cards are worth anything...

this is why you make decks. you put all the cards you want to draw into it, and then youll always draw a card you can use. the situation to described above only happens when you put every single card you own, into the deck.
i used to play this game, and i have a bunch of cards in a binder some where. im about 10 cards short of having the entire 5th edition set.

i still do play MTG but not nearly as much as i used to...i dont even remember half the cards names but i remember what they dp...but iwas never obssessed with it like some ppl....iv seen kids at school who do nothing BUT play MTG....i have decent decks that win me a few tourny's....i have mostly a black shadow/wall deck....a blue shadow deck...a land destruction deck.....and i had a burn deck i beleive its called....sold it for 100 dollars...lol...it had those artifact bridges that stated sumthing like "only monsters with an attack of how many cards u have in your hand may attack"....and i think it was an artifact called Vodoo Doll that stated "for every non-attacking monster your opponent has deal 1 dmg to him/her"....or sumthing along those lines...and the deck had no monsters in it cept for a few goblins here or there...it was mostly full of burning axe's and such.....and i also had sum land destruction in it as well

My friend and I are going to decide on our decks in 1.5 weeks tops. Then we are going to rush for cards and hopefully make it to the top spots. This is a Standard Tourny. So Top 4 at the regionals across the globe go to that nationals at Baltimore.
So right now I can only use 8th Edition, Mirrodian Block, and Kamigawa Block.
Anyone play the recent MtG so they can throw some suggestions around?

Wow. I was playing when 3rd *just* came out... (the "Revised" edition).
Man... I miss my Deck of Squirrely Death. Was a green/white deck that generated insane amounts of token creatures. Sure, a low level Red spell could wipe my side clean, but they'd be back in a round or two... then they'd get +3/+3 casts on 'em (stacked), and trample...
God I loved that deck. Killing a man with a Djinni is one thing. Killing him with ten squirrel tokens and four "sheep" tokens was choice.

I played MTG from 3RD Edition until around Mirage when my son who is now 24 was into it big time. I had almost every card there was except for a Black Lotus at one time or another. I still have several thousand cards in a drawer that we get out once in a while just to buyild a deck and play for a weekend. I entered two tournaments that were held at The University of Akron and made the final 16 once. That was out of over 400 players. At the time I played a Dragon?Snake Basket/Altar?Hurricane Deck that was just so weird that no one knew what to expect from it. After that tourney everyone was prepared and it lost miserably to the sideboarded cards that started showing up. I still have full sets in binders form those days but many of my power cards have been sold or traded or given away. Anyway good times.

i play the mtg UMS map in starcraft
its different from the card game. much different, but the challenge is also much greater. a lot of the people who play the ums map are really good at it.
