Hooray for me. |
Ha! Good Luck! I live there, and we often ask ourselves that question... Oh well, I'm moving in July anyway. |
i live in prince george right now, i just survived the coldest temps we've had in years. hit -36 degrees a couple days ago, not including the windchill. i couldnt believe my truck started without a block heater. i had to let it idle for about 10 minutes before i could drive it though, because it kept stalling when i tried to put it in reverse to back out of my parking spot. and its an automatic.

Yeah, I don't even own clothing that will let me survive in those kinds of temperatures for more than a few minutes without succumbing to hypothermia, which in the medical community is called "Staythefuckoutofcanadadumbass-ia"
I'll have to go shopping to buy shoes that I can wear with a suit, but will still be warm enough to walk in. Well, shoes, pants, sweaters, socks, gloves, etc. Ought to be easy to find that stuff in California...

Just because you evolved to be a Yeti doesn't mean the rest of us civilized people need to. Now if you'll excuse me, I broke a nail while typing this, and I just must get a new manicure now. Does my tiara look crooked to you?

Dao Jones wrote: | Congratulations. There is a short list of things people should be allowed to brag about without repercussions, and going for a PhD is one of them. (The others would be having a child, breaking a Guiness record, and losing your virginity.) Do you already have your MS? Or is it a combined program? |
Hah, thanks.
No, I don't have an M.S. yet. Interestingly enough, in U.S. science programs, strictly M.S. programs have been (until recently) rare. In recent years that's changed, partially because interest for M.S.'s has risen, and Universities have started to use them as a way to make money (Ph.D. students are normally given full funding + a halfway generous stipend, M.S. students have to provide their own dollaz.)
It's scary though, I'm honestly shocked that I actually got in. I mean my "stats" are pretty good, but they aren't mind blowing by any means. I haven't even started yet or even accepted the offer, and I'm already starting to have "am I really cut out for this?" thoughts. Oh well, hopefully it'll work out. They do some pretty awesome research, so I'll be spending the next 4-5 (hopefully) years doing something related.
Oh well, when I graduate it will all be worth it, entering an uncertain over-saturated job market while having to pay off my undergraduate student loans and all the interest that has accrued on them over a 5 year span.
On the bright side, I'm one step closer to becoming Doctor Storm.

be sure. my brother went for his PHD as something to "fall back on" and that did not go over well. he almost got kicked out (for some other reasons too) bc he was "wasting" a spot for someone more serious..u dont want some 200-300k looming debt for something u might not like.
though in the end,, after a few more years he got it all done and is now a physician, and i guess its him.
not that am trying to cut u from your education,.. just make sure its what you really want... dont practice because you can, do it bc of those early-childhood heavy traumatic experiences that drive you to be a care-taker.
oh man im being so cycnical..
i have family that is all edtumakat0rd like that so i know the work*.
seriously though; good luck.
*(even though i went to school to draw naked people)

I'm not going into medicine, I'm going into chemistry!
And they pay me, I don't pay
Seriously, I wish I had the balls to be a medical doctor. At least I'd pretty much be guaranteed employment for the rest of my life.
But alas, I could never cut a person open, I'd pass out on the spot. Heck, I hate even being near sick people. And I've never seen a dead person!
