The problem is a sub-forum sticks out much more than a sticky in a Q & A forum. If you're new to LLD101 you're not going to know where everything is. And I think a sticky for people to introduce themselves is actually a pretty bad idea. Because introductions are practically your own personal piece. I wouldn't want to stick one in a block of introductions.
I think it's very appealing for new members. It's a very nice welcoming gesture for those who are new to LLD101 and wish to let the community know who they are.

This site isn't very hard to navigate. I understand that people can be unfamiliar with the territory, but the very top announcements include a "New to LLD101" sticky. Anyone clicking that link could easily be directed to an "introduce yourself" thread as well. I just don't think an entire subforum is warranted, given the limited number of new members we have. My concern is that it would quickly get gunked up with unneeded crap. And most people who introduce themselves aren't going to write a great monologue - they're probably going to say "Hi, my name is X, and I'm new here. I like stuff." Go back and look at a lot of the other "introductions" we've had; they're usually just a line or two.

I agree. Tell you what. I'm starting to look at a lot of our older stickies (LLD101 domain change, for example) that have become increasingly irrelevant over time. I may in the course of the next week or so start cleaning that stuff up. While doing so I'll definitely add something to be more welcoming to new users - it may very well be a new subforum. Lemme see what works.

I have quite the diverse portfolio of evil.
[Edit: D'oh. Too slow to beat Grim. Maybe I'm a Slow-Moving Monsterous Super Nazi? Like Jabba the Hutt with a swastika.]
