Socking a Magic Weapon |
|
I found a war axe (lvl 18 req) with 16 max damage and 1 sock already in it. So.........I was thinking since md jewels trade for ist sometimes...why not use soj formula to give this bad boy 6 socks and put md jwls in it? Then it would be likehaving an extra 16 md jewel in a war axe.
Am I off base here? I know u can add socks but not sure if I can put in max 6 or if even worth it. This is a "blue" magic weapon.
Thanks from the Noob.
For a lvl 18 zealot BTW...lol

No. If a blue weapon already has sockets, you CANNOT add more sockets to it.
As well, you may want to look for a -10 speed weapon for your zealer. speeeedd is goooodd.

not only that but blue (magic) items can only have 2 sockets (possibly only 1 depending on the item).

AND no item that has an existing socket can get more through any form of socketing.
no cubing.
no quests.
nothing.
i wish people would understand this.

Well....I understand now thanks to this forum |

Thanks all...headbang guy included. Battle.net is not clear on max socks for magic. I knew rare could only get 2 but unsure about blue's.
Problem solved. Thx

a rare will only get 2 if it spawns with 2. if it spawns with 1 or you use the socket quest to get 1, you're stuck with 1.

What items can only get one? I have socketed many magic items, and have always only got one socket and this may be part of the problem.

look for the item you plan on socketing, and look under the "sockets" column.

If the maximum number of sockets the item can get normally (If it were white) is one, then the most it will get as a magical item will be one.
For example, you can't have a two socket magical dagger.
Just like having a Jewelers mod in a helm will never give it four sockets.
You can find out max number of sockets for all items at the arreat summit.
http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/weaponsandarmor.shtml
Just find the category for the type of item your interested in and tadaa.
Hope it was helpful.

BNet Answer Finally Found... |

Magic, Rare, Crafted, Set and Unique Socketed Items
Magic Items can have up to 4 sockets. Rare items are limited to 2 sockets. Crafted, Set and Unique items are limited to 1 socket in most cases. There are a few Set and Unique Items that have more than one Socket as a default ability.
Pasted directly from Bnet. Duh I can't believe I didn't see this before.
feeling stupid...thanks for the replies y'all
