Time elapse is a common method used to denote passage of time in film. I'm not 100% sure of what it is you're looking for information-wise, so those above links may not be helpful. Best I could dig up in five minutes' searching at work.

Paper's geared towards movies more so my main thing was to try the film equivalent to the dotdotdot in books. This will work.

Don't let that dissuade you from doing more research for me though.
