my cd drive is disconnected for some reason, and i cant get repairs for about a week or 2... is there anyway to load and play d2 withgout the cd or usin the cd drive?

Dumb question, but did you open the case and check the wiring? When I moved recently my DVD drive stopped working, and when I looked inside I found that the power connection had worked itself loose.

To answer your question, I can think of two ways, but neither is easy.

1. Get an iso of the LoD play disk, and use a program to mount it on your desktop. I think we have a link to a mounting program in our "useful programs" sticky, but if not I can recommend one.

2. I believe there's a hack out there that fools D2 into thinking the CD is in the drive. I obviously wouldn't recommend this route, but it's a possibility.

Maybe we can fix your CD drive instead. Plenty of knowledgeable people here. And Ubermoose, who is basically LLD101 Tech Support. Start by checking to see if it's a driver issue:

1. Right-click "My Computer", select "Properties", then "Hardware", then "Device Manager".
2. Look for "DVD/CD-Rom Drives", or something similar. If you see a bunch of yellow question marks, then you need to reinstall your drivers, which you can almost certainly download online.
3. If you don't see any listing, open up your case, and look behind the CD drive. It should have two things plugged into it. One is the power cable running from the power supply, the other connects it to the motherboard. If either plug is missing/loose, that is likely your problem.
4. If none of that works, ask Ubermoose.

Actually, Uber probably knows a better way to do that. I basically just use monkeytech* when it comes to computer repair.

You can also download a D2Loader, in which you would onlyneed a cd key to opperate D2

Its unlikely to be a driver thing because it was working fine before [wasn't it?]. And i dont even think they require separate drivers.
Take the side of your case off and see if any wires have come loose from it [there should be 1 power cable and an ide/sata cable attached to it. If there isnt just plug them in and it should be fine [you can mess up which cables to use, only the right one fits in the right place].
If neither of these things work, then its possibly broken, buy a new one they're only about $20.

If you're REALLY iching to play d2 you can just get an iso image and mount it using deamonTools.

Dao, there is an actual word which means to make things work just by hitting them, but i cant remember it now.

It'd be easier to diagnose with more information. Did you recently install something when it stopped working? Is there an error when you try to put a cd in? Does the cd drive not even open? There are a number of possible reasons it's not working.
