A couple days ago, I was typing up a long explanation of my level 18 throwbarb's dilemma. I clicked Submit, right at the same time that LLD101 crashed. So here goes again - hopefully it will go through this time:

I am in the process of remaking my throwbarb to be a hell-rushed build. Lame, I know, but I'm curious to see how he competes against the rest of East NL without using the norm rush as an excuse.

I had experimented before, and I found that on the single throw side, 20% ed jewels in the shield are much more effective than 15 max jewels. With ideal gear, you only have about 103% off-weapon enhanced damage on the single throw side. Also, throwing weapons (especially eth/rep war javelins) tend to have high damage, so it seems feasible to me that two 20% ED jewels would outperform a couple 15 maxers.

However, I have no way of determining if this is just another example of the lying character screen. Does anyone know if there's a way to calculate throwing damage? Or if you have any insight, please just let me know. I'm eager to socket my shield with a couple of 20% ed jewels, but I'd like to double check first.

Throw damage on barb is display bugged. You need to calculate the actual damage.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Any suggestions on how to calculate the damage myself?

have you tried using ppr's damage calculator?

Awesome, I forgot that PPR posted that amazing resource. Let me crunch the numbers and I'll see what comes out.

Edit: Unless you're using eth/rep war javs, 15 max jewels are superior to 20 ed jewels. And even if you are using eth/rep war javs, the 20 ed jewels are still slightly lower than 15 maxers. Guess I better socket my shield with 19's then.

On a side note, just how badly does the character screen lie? The damage listed from the calculator isn't even half of what's displayed on my thrower.
