What have you done to your computer in the last 4-5 days?

It could be background programs taking up more of your pc's power. Do a full scan with Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-aware SE plus maybe a scan using whatever anti-virus you use.

Then, go to Start > Run > then type msconfig and press enter. Then take a screenshot of what's in the Startup tab of the window that pops up and post it here.

Also check the Processes tab of task manager to see if anything is taking up a lot of memory/cpu power.

As you can see, all the startup part of msconfig does is show you what programs your computer runs at startup. Most of these are not needed and just slow the pc down.

NeroCheck for example is only needed when you burn a cd/dvd [and when you start to burn, it should start anyway] and PDVDServ is only used by PowerDVD if you have a remote control.

Others you dont need include iTunesHelper, qttask, adobe reader, steam, soundman, mixersel, shwiconem, AOLHostManager [only if you dont have dial-up].

Of course, if you want these features or decide you want them at a later date, you can go back to msconfig and re-check the boxes.

To find out about any of the other processes, just google its name and there should be either processlibrary.com or liutilities.com in the top half of the first page to tell you what they do and if you need them or not.

Only thing is, it still doesnt explain why d2 started to slowdown. Did you run the spyware programs? And does it lag when you minimize other games where there was no problem before? Defrag your hard drive for good measure too.

If you're ever curious about what something does on your computer, Google it. There are several websites (I like liutilities.com and auditmypc.com) which pretty much explain what every start-up and process running on your computer is used for, and whether or not you can toss it. It's also handy for identifying malware, trojans and the like that slip through your protection software.

I use AntiVir. Its small, does what it says and best of all, its free.

Also, give the "Useful Programs" sticky a read, it should contain pretty much everything you need.

When you put Diablo 2 into window mode, it defaults to 640x480 resolution. You can go to video options in game and change the resolution to 800x600, but this is the largest it'll get. Since that's the largest Diablo 2 will go, you'll have to reduce the screen resolution of your computer. The smaller your screen resolution is, the more monitor your windowed Diablo 2 will fill.
