PostPosted: Sun Sep 25, 2005 7:26 pm    Post subject:  Eating disorder...

Im asking this cause i told a friend at work about it, and she said that she thought i had an eating disorder...

i had a post that explained this longer, but i felt i could shorten it to this...

if i eat well, i feel great, to the point people ask me how i can stay so happy while getting yelled at so much (i work as a cook, on weekend nights, even the best cooks get yelled at Sad )... and if i miss a couple meals, people ask why im so pissed at everyone...

Is this a eating disorder? or is it just the way i work?

I think everyone gets a bit testy if they don't eat for awhile. How long "awhile" is depends on the person. Food provides you with a feeling of euphoria, there's nothing wrong nor surprising about that. As long as you make sure you're not over-indulging and eat in moderation, it's fine.

Elusive made me think of another idea. Does this correlation between your mood and whether or not you've eaten only happen when you're at work? If so, it might have to do with the fact that while at work, you're surrounded by all of this good (hopefully Very Happy ) food and you can't eat it. It's almost like going grocery shopping when you're hungry - our hunger levels have a direct effect on our personality and actions.

no, acually, it happens less at work than when im with friends... i think it has something to do with that work keeps me busy...

and you probably heard of Ruby Tuesday's... the food there is awesome >< and its $5 for a whole meal for me Smile

Edit: just thought of something that cleared up my last question, thanks for the help.

well i tend not to get too mad at work, as im not trying to be fired. If people get mad because of waiting/bad food ect., i just do my best to shrug it off and not let it bother me.

but im sure there is some relationship between hunger level and mood. Being hungry isnt the best feeling, and when you cant solve that feeling, chances are youll get upset, impatient, and even angry. Its like waiting forever for the fool to pm you back who has that item you need (to put it into d2 terms for those of us who do not have this eating erm...problem).

i get free meals =D

if getting upset at my place of work got you fired... we'd have a very different group of people.. your just not allowed to show your anger in the FOH (front of house). I love the people at my work, its one of few places i know where you can get angry as hell and shouting profanities at someone and they act like it didn't happen after they clock out... its just awesome... although, i personally have never yelled at someone... not really my style... i just get them to fix it.

LOL, would just be like a lightning bolt coming down, ezpk. (if they dont carry around some wisps on their hands and look slightly invisible of course Cool ). should add to the list of "you know you play too much d2 when... Rolling Eyes )

but the eating things doesnt seem to be a problem. since, as you said, you arent the type to yell at people so i doubt there is any problem with getting annoyed at missed meals. and since you are a cook, i think you know what you are eating/what you should eat so there is no health issue.

if the friend asks again, just ask why is it that women would kill for chocolate Rolling Eyes

You might be hypoglycemic. Here's a link: http://diabetes.niddk.nih.gov/dm/pubs/hypoglycemia/

Most people I know that have mood alteration occur immediately after eating, or after having gone for a period of time without eating, are usually hypoglycemic to some extent. I doubt you have full-blown diabetes, but it may be something to look into.

Dr. Dao is good...

I knew i had low blood sugar, runs in the family... didn't really think of it as an eating disorder though :/

although, it might be a blessing in disguise... i've never gotten so upset that a #5 at arby's couldn't fix it, and im talking very harsh situations too Sad
