Help me understand thorns

Ive been looking into this skill but I not sure on the information ive found Rolling Eyes just need some clarification im understanding it correctly.

Ive found information saying thorns receives a 1/10 penalty for pvp, level 20 thorns returns 1010% damage. So from the 1/10 penalty am i to assume this would become 101% damage returned? Its obviously not returning this much but I dont know what calculation im missing. Does that 1/10 penalty also receive the 1/4 pvp penalty when the damage is transfered to the attacker?

If I'm thinking right , Throns has the 1/10 pvp penelty then the 1/6 melee penelty is added in? so 1010/10= 101/6 = 16.8 I could be wrong but that makes the most sense I guess?

Yeah thats the bit that none of the explanations ive found has added in. They just mention the 1/10th and thats all Rolling Eyes

It goes something like this:

Total Thorns damage in PvP = PvP damage taken from player * (.01 * (Listed % damage return / 10)) * .17 (Standard PvP penalty)

The damage output is physical damage, so things like straight or % -Damage taken will lower it further. This also applies to IM.

So here's an example:

Say we have our paladin with 1000% thorns, getting hit by a 1,200 damage attack. Plugging those numbers in the formula:

200 * (.01 * (1000 / 10)) * .17

So first we go through the PvP penalty on damage returned skill %

1000 / 10 = 100, revised formula: 200 * (.01 * 100) * .17

Then we convert the percent to a decimal value so we can multiply it straight to the damage that our paladin actually took:

.01 * 100 = 1, revised formula: 200 * 1 * .17

Then finish out the rest of the math:

200 * .17 = 34 damage returned.

It really doesn't do much damage now, unless you can somehow get a very high level skill and you get hit hard.

Thanks Pansy, just what I needed, something specific to work on other than just that its been nerfed and doesnt work well now Wink

At least I have an understanding now why it doesnt work well now I have all the information Very Happy
