Minimum wage gets raised! |
|
Minimum wage (in America) will be raised to 7.50$, when it was 5.15$. I think this is by far one of the dumbest mistakes ever.
I understand its so that people with less money will have more to provide their for their familys and what not but...
Companys that pay minimum wage wont lose a dime for the raise, consumers will just have to pay more, and essentially you lose more money than you gain. Not only that but this leads to more companys outsourcing jobs for affordibility.

I agree, but I thought minimum has been $6.75 for a while now.

It must be. $5.15 an hour in California would be considered financial rape.
To the best of my knowledge, minimum has been $6.75 for at least 4 years in Cali. I remember because when I got my first job almost 5 years ago, I was paid $7 an hour, which I remember being .25 cents above minimum.

Minimum wage varies by state.
The minimum wage in Cali is most likely going to increase after the nationwide minimum wage increases to 7.50.

Minimum is 5 something here, but I think they should raise it because its hard to survive on that, I used to make minimum so I know how it is.
EDIT: Raising the minimum wage wont increase prices much at all I believe, the main reason is that most of "Our" produces come from China or are made by mexicans in american plants. Sure it may raise some prices but I think even the small increase in a paycheck would help.

I'm glad to hear that the minimum wage is being increased.
It won't affect consumers in most cases, and when it does, I'm happy to pay a little extra if it means that millions of people can support their starving children.

yes it does. i make minimium wage at one of my jobs (and ive made min at a few jobs before with and without tips) but i also make tips. i dont care about the extra money i would rather have the market dictate wages rather then the government.
you think it wont raise consumer prices much but at first glance it wont but it does snowball as time goes on and a few pennies here and there dont seem like much but do that a few times a day for each person every day and that ends up to be alot of money.

It's $5.15 in Florida, or maybe $5.45. But anyway, this will be a huge increase. It's not like it wasn't anticipated. I listened to an NPR boradcast about some research done about it and it largely won't help anyone, as most jobs get paid about $7.50 or more anyway. But it will help people like maids, who live atrociously and that makes me feel better.

The inflation does happen but at a slower rate than the insta-raise ppl will receive. So even though it does cause inflation, people may be able to pick themselves up and get in at least decent financial standing before the inflation catches up to them.
Btw, the governmental standarard is $5.15. The states can change it on their own to a higher rate, but none must be lower than that $5.15 unless you make tips, and if thats the case then your tips+hourly earnings must total at least $5.15 an hour.
^^ I get bored at work on break and read the big labor law signs.
