What's the longest time you've been without sleep?

I stayed up about 60 hours for a few papers and finals for classes that I skipped for about 5 weeks straight. Luckily for me, my roommate left me a 12 pack of Jolt caffeine gum (each tab contains a cup of coffee's worth of caffeine) that I gorged on, keeping me awake, so I managed to pull off A's in all the assignments/exams, but a C in the class. Sad

My old Bio teacher has us all trumped though, having stayed up around 120 hours, writing his senior term paper, and driving 8 hours back home from college at the end. He then slept 20 hours upon getting home. Shocked

i used to be an insomniac

ive gone many times like 5 or 6 days without sleep

when i was still in school i slept maybe 4-8 hours total during the week (for the whole week)

i dont know what my longest time without sleep is though

i share your problem but not as bad. for junior/senior year id say id avg 3, maybe 4 hours a night of sleep at most during the week.

most of this is attributed to a shitload of work but i still have troubles sleeping even when nothings at hand.

iirc i pulled an all nighter last year preparing for a final and a presentation on the pros/cons/uses of nuclear energy for electricity, and had to stay up until 2 the next night for another final, upon which i woke up at 7.

so 24 + 19 = 45 hrs no sleep, and a lot of soda consumed.

I would buy that! (Also, I had my first out-loud laugh in about two weeks when I read that. Nothing in the world is funnier than dry sarcasm.)

My best was in New Orleans a few months ago. Slept 3 hours on my birthday (April 4th), worked ~17 hours, got on a plane two hours later and flew for another 18 with around seven hours in layovers, then hit New Orleans and partied and drank for 11 straight hours before going to bed at 2am. Total was 55 hours on three hours sleep.

On a related note: I was woken up by a fire alarm the next day after only four hours sleep. I got up, ran three miles, and was pretty much an unstoppable machine for the next two days. It was insane - like living in Kuwait gave me superstamina. Then I had half a Hurricane at Pat O'Briens and found my kryptonite. That thing not only tasted nasty, but dropped my ass like a sack of lead. Shocked

I'm still trying to figure out how I could drink for three days with no need for sleep and no hangovers, but half a Hurricane killed me. I guess I can't hold my Rum and Cherry-flavored NyQuil.

Sounds pretty much like me. Just recently, I went 4.5 days without sleep. I work 3rd shift now, 8pm-4am. Around 6am I went to a friends house and cut wood till about 12pm. Then we went to the lake till about 6pm. Then I went back to work from 8-4. Did that for another day. Got back from work and I was "over-tired". Not sure how many of you have ever been so tired you can't sleep. Yes, I know, thats an oxymoron but it's true from what I'v noticed. Your whole body is exhausted but no matter how hard you try you can't sleep. It's like your body is using up the last little bit of energy before it puts you down for a good 24 hours straight without being able to wake up (which I did).

When school was going on, a typical day was like this. School 6-3, work 4-10, homework 10-3, video games or TV 3-5, 5-6 get ready for school. Sometimes I would sleep instead of TV/Video games but normaly it was the TV, lol. Then Saturday/friday night I was out with friends and just used SUnday to sleep most of the time.

you die aftter 10 days no sleep, its just dumb like whats the point of staying up so long? to play games? lol

anyway, ive probly only gone one night no sleep at some party that went forever, i was totally screwed the next day

my longest that i remember was about 60 hours. working on a huge paper for college....when i finally lied down to go to sleep, i had about an hour of sleep and the damn fire alarm went off.

longest ive slept straight? about 36 hours straight.

Its not quite that precise Smile. I think the longest anyone has ever gone is something like 11days.

I wouldnt like to try though. It causes hallucinations, paranoia, problems with balance?, and overworks your heart.

hah tips from an insomniac

there are cases of insomnia where people havent slept for years

i think the record is something like 25 years without sleep

but ive gone prolly close to 10 days without sleep before

it varies on people ofcourse, the longest ive heard of was about 10-11 days, well thsats the record anyway.
